In the Treta-yuga, Lord Parasurama bathed here to absolve himself of the sins of exterminating the ksatriya-race twenty-one times. In the Dvapara-yuga, Samba, son of Sri Krishna, cured his leprosy by bathing in the river and smearing mud from its banks. The river is renowned for curing skin diseases. The Pandavas also visited this holy place.
