College of Forestry, Ponnampet, in Coorg College of Forestry, Ponnampet: College of Forestry, Ponnampet: College of Forestry, Ponnampet is an A+ accredited institute by the Indian Council of Forest Research and Education, Dehradun for imparting quality education in Forestry Sciences in Karnataka. This college is located at Ponnampet in Kodagu District of Karnataka which falls under the sub tropical humid zone. Kodagu district is a hotspot of biodiversity and process the largest area under sacred forest in the entire country. Ponnampet lie in longitude of 74o83’E-75o55’E, latitude of 12o06’N-14o61’N at an attitude of 851m above mean sea level with a average rainfall of 2800m. This college is well connected by bus to the nearest railway station at Mysore. Undergraduate degree programme of this college had its humble beginning in 1985 at College of Agriculture under University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. Later, College of Forestry was established in 1995 in the present campus of Ponnampet to cater to the forestry needs of this region. Post graduate degree programme in Forestry was started in 2001 to impart the higher education in Forestry. Since April 2013, College of Forestry, Ponnampet is functioning under the aegis of University of Agricultural & Horticultural Sciences, Shimoga after its bifurcation from University of Agricultural Sciences, GKVK, Bangalore. In the year 2013 College of Forestry, Ponnampet celebrated its Silver Jubilee for completing 25 years of Forestry education. Till date, 26 batches of undergraduate student and 12 batches of Post graduate students have passed out of this college comprising of 13 IFS Officers, 15 ACF’s, 60 RFO’s to our credit. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Gonikoppal in Coorg Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Gonikoppal: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Gonikoppal:  Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gonikoppal is a knowledge and Resource Center of Indian council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). This aids developing and dissemination of location specific technologies at district level. Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Gonikoppal is the first ICAR KVK in Karnataka was established on 16th December 1976 under Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru in Kodagu District. Initially it was functioning at Chettalli, under Central Horticultural Experimental Station (CHES). Later during the year 1992, the erstwhile Citrus Experimental Station, Gonikoppal activities were shifted to Chettalli and Krishi Vigyan Kendra started functioning at Gonikoppal. KVK, Gonikoppal is located in Virajpet taluk which is 50 km away from Madikeri and 92 km away from Mysore.  The centre is situated in Sub-tropical humid zone with mean temperature of the station range between 320C and 190C. The annual rainfall is 2800 mm with major precipitation during July and August. Central Horticultural Experiment Station(CHES), Chettalli  in Coorg Central Horticultural Experiment Station(CHES), Chettalli : Central Horticultural Experiment Station(CHES), Chettalli : This station situated in Kodagu district of Karnataka was transferred to IIHR from the Govt. of Karnataka with effect from February 1, 1972.   Occupying an area of 92 ha., the mandate crop of the station has been Coorg ma ndarin with major emphasis on citrus die-back.  The station also works on fruit crops like sapota, guava, papaya, pineapple, passion fruit, minor fruits like pummelo, avocado, mangosteen,  and of late has diversified into floricultural crops.  The station has a strong nursery unit for production and supply of disease free citrus planting material, other plant materials and  Trichoderma cultures.  All the research work along with research laboratories of the erstwhile Citrus Experiment Station, Gonikoppal were shifted to CHES, Chettalli with effect from 1.1.1992 CHES, Chettalli -At a Glance: Central Horticultural Experiment Station, Chettalli (District- Kodagu, Karnataka) is a regional station of Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bangalore under Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.
