Other species present are chital spotted deer, muntjac (barking deer), mouse deer, four-horned antelope, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, mongoose, civet, otter, and more. The landscape is one of gentle slopes and shallow valleys. Dry deciduous forest trees are leafless in the summer rather than in the winter. There are grassy swamps where the soil is clayey, perennially moist, and which support a luxuriant growth of green grass all year. The change in terrain throughout the park in refreshing and the river system provides a unique wildlife viewing experience. Nagarhole National park derives its name from the combination of two Kannada words. ‘Nagar,’ meaning snake, and ‘hole,’ meaning streams. True to its name, quite a few serpentine streams fork through the rich tropical forests of the park. Nagarhole Park was set up in 1955. In 1975, its area was increased to include a greater expanse of forest reserve. The original forest was once an exclusive hunting ground for the erstwhile Maharajas of Mysore. Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary in Coorg Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary: Brahmagiri Wildlife Sanctuary: Area ( Sq kms ) – 181.29 km² Vegetation – Evergreen, Semi-Evergreen and Shola) Brahmagiri Wild Life Sanctuary, part of Western Ghats is located in Kodagu (Coorg) district. Brahmagiri Wild Life Sanctuary has evergreen and semi green forests as well as shola grassland habitat. The sanctuary is named after Brahmagiri peak here whose height varies from 65 to 1607 m. Brahmagiri was declared as sanctuary on 5th June 1974. The eastern tip of the Brahmagiri Wild Life Sanctuary almost touches the north western edge of the Nagarahole National Park; a thin stretch of coffee plantation is between these two. The southern boundary connects Kerala State. Brahmagiri Wild Life Sanctuary is spread about 181.80 sq. km. The area has mainly evergreen and semi-green forest, and in the higher altitudes, there are grasslands with shola forest patches. Animals found at Brahmagiri Wild Life Sanctuary include Tiger, Leopard, Leopard cat, Gaur, Elephant, Jungle cat, Wild Pig, Wild dog, sloth bear, Sambar, Spotted deer, Lion-tailed Macaque, Nilgiri langur, Slender loris, Bonnet macaque, common langur, Barking Deer, Mouse Deer, Malabar Giant Squirrel, Giant flying squirrel, Nilgiri marten, Common otter, Brown Mongoose, Civets, Porcupine and Pangolin. Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary in Coorg Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary: Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary: (Area ( Sq kms ) – 92.65 km², Vegetation – Evergreen and Semi-Evergreen) Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Somwarpet taluk of Kodagu district in southern Karnataka. It is noted as one of the important bird areas of the world and home to rare and endangered bird life. It is spread over 102 Kms. The sanctuary adjoins Bisle reserve forest to the north and Kukke Subramanya forest range to the west. The topography is marked by steep terrains with waterfalls along its many mountain streams. Several swamps are also present in this sanctuary. The altitude of the sanctuary varies from 160 to 1712 Mts, Pushpagiri peak is the highest in the northern side. The sanctuary is one of the largest areas of tropical evergreen forests in Karnataka with nearly 70% of the sanctuary covered with forests. Pushpagiri has dense evergreen and semi-evergreen vegetation, with shola forests and grasslands in areas of higher elevation. Indian Wild Dog, Brown Palm Civet, Indian Giant Squirrel, Indian Hare, Spotted Deer, Sambar, Indian Muntjac, Gaur, Asian Elephant, Wild Pig, Giant Flying Squirrel, Travancore Flying, Otter species, Stripe-necked mongoose and mouse deer are some of the animal species found here. Three species of primates found here are common langur, bonnet macaque and lion-tailed macaque Recognized as an Important bird Area the sanctuary has a rich diversity of birds  like the Nilgiri wood-pigeon and Near threatened species like grey-breasted laughing thrush, black and orange flycatcher and Nilgiri flycatcher  are found in this sanctuary.
