Yemmemadu Dargah Sharif in Coorg Yemmemadu Dargah Sharief: God: Yemmemadu Dargah Sharief: is in Napoklu, Madikeri Talku, Kodagu,. the Holy Tomb, of Yemmemadu is one of the most sacred shrines for Muslims in Kodagu district. It is the ‘Dargah’ or the tomb of Hazrath Sufi Shaeed and Sayyed Hassan Sakaf Halramir who came from Persia and devoted their life to the service and upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. Sufi Shaeed came to Yemmemadu around 366 years ago to give religious discourses and to help the poor. He soon attracted people of all faiths due to his views and practices. People belonging to various faiths visited the place ever since. Every year ‘Urus’ or ‘Urs’ is held here for eight days in their remembrance where devotees gather in large numbers. About three to four lakh devotees cutting across caste, creed, and religion visit this sacred shrine. The number of people visiting Yemmemadu Darga Sharief, mostly from Karnataka and kerala State, has increased of late. Padi Sri Igguthappa Temple in Coorg Paadi Igguthappa Temple: God: Paadi Igguthappa Temple: is in Kakkabe, Madikeri Talku, Kodagu,. The temple was built in 1810 by Linga Rajendra . Kodagu’s Paadi Igguthappa temple became a prominent place of worship during King Lingarajendra’s reign. The temple, located atop a hill in a forested area in Kakkabe, has been in existence since 1153. In 1835, the year after Linga Rajendra’s son Chikka Veerarajendra was deposed by the British, Dewan Apparanda Bopu took it on himself to renovate the temple. The structure was reconstructed and was fitted with tiles replacing the earlier thatched roof. The temple once again went through reconstruction in 2008. Descendants of Apparanda Bopu along with other devotees have provided silver cladding for the entrance door. Paadi Igguthappa is an important deity for the people of Kodagu. He is considered a provider of bounty and one who fulfills his devotee’s wishes. Iggu means grain and thappa means give. Puthari, the harvest festival in Kodagu, is normally celebrated 90 days after Onam. Every year, paddy is first harvested in fields belonging to Lord Igguthappa. People of Kodagu celebrate the festival the following day. An annual prayer festival is held at the Padi Iguthappa Temple in March. Omkareshwara Temple in Madikeri Coorg Omkareshwara Temple: God: Lord Shiva Omkareshwara Temple: is in Madikeri City, Kodagu,.  (Hours: 6:30 am to 1 pm & 5pm-8pm) This temple is dedicated to Shiva, and was built by Lingarajendra in 1820. It is a mix of Gothic and Islamic styles. There is a tank in front of the temple. There is a footpath leading to a small “Mantap”. The surrounding place is abode with peace. There is a story behind building of this temple. It is said Lingarajendra killed an honest and pious Brahmin to fulfill his political ambitions. That Brahmin became a “Brahmarakshasa” and started teasing the king with troubles. It left the king only when the king brought a “Shivalinga” from Kashi and installed it after building a temple. The shivalinga was named as “Omkareshwara” and regular rituals were performed. The bars of the windows of the temple were made of “Panchaloha” and an alphabet “lim” has been placed in between the bars. Four minars have been built on four corners of the temple and the central minar is like a globe, which anybody can see. The Triveni Sangama is formed here by the convergence of three rivers, Kaveri, Sujyothi and Kanike. For taking a dip at the Sangama permission from the temple authorities is required. This is a pilgrimage center of Coorg. This is a place, where Kannika and Sujyothi, the two tributaries to Cauvery join. This is known as “Triveni Sangama”. Near to this sangama, there are four temples, where Eshwara, Subramanya, Vishnu and Ganapathi are installed. This is also known as “Bhagundeshwara Kshetra”. The pilgrims before going to Talakaveri take a dip in the sangama and perform “Karmas” (rituals) to their ancestors. (Known as “pindapradhana”).
